Guyana: CCJ To Hear Case on July 1

The Caribbean Court of Justice (CCJ) based in Trinidad agreed to hear the case brought by Guyana’s opposition PPP/C in the March 2 elections without stating whether it had jurisdiction.
At issue is the meaning of the phrase “more votes are cast” in Guyana’s election guidelines.  While the meaning might seem obvious to most, it is important to remember the December 2019 argument by the ruling party about how many votes constituted a majority in the 65-seat parliament.
